FREEVIEW

The TV regulator OFCOM has granted High Definition Freeview licenses to ITV and Channel 4. This follows provision for BBC1 HD on Freeview announced previously.

In order to receive Freeview you will need to have a digital compatible aerial and either a Freeview box or a Freeview integrated TV (most TVs bought within the last five years have this function built in). Once you have these items you will be able to enjoy the best subscription-free TV in the country with access to all the main terrestrial channels and more, including E4, Film4, Sky News, Dave and CNN. Freeview have also recently added four High Definition stations: BBC HD, ITV1 HD, 4HD.

Freeview currently has a UK coverage of 73%. The alternative satellite based service, Freesat, reaches 98% of UK homes and already offers BBC1 and ITV in high definition.
